More fibre goodness! September 10, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — behindthewoolshack @ 7:26 am

Ok, for those of you who are spinners and chomping at the bit for Spun Out to open, this is probably just cruel of me, but I love to share (and tease you!).  This fibre is from The Thylacine, a Tassie lady who now resides in the UK.  It’s divine…..it’s actually a million times better than divine, especially the overdyed grey merino and oatmeal blue faced leicester!  But, you will have to wait (sorry folks, things are taking longer than expected!) but trust me, it will be SOOOO worth it!  For now, just ooogle, enjoy and anticipate!

Ribbed Cotton Top September 6, 2009

Kathleen has knocked up a lovely knit, just in time for Spring/Summer!  This pattern is from Jo Sharp Knit Issue 5 called Ribbed Top, and she knit it in Jo Sharp Soho Summer Cotton.  It looks so lovely on her, and we can see she will easily get plenty of wear from it this Summer.

Having Fun With Kool Aid! September 5, 2009

Keeping my two eldest sprogs entertained when they come back from School/Kindy is always a challenge, but we recently decided to have a play at dyeing yarn with the American powdered soft drink, Kool Aid (which I purchased from an Aussie supplier, but you can buy it off Ebay).  So, with two sachets of red and blue, I mixed up the powder with water, popped some pyrex baking dishes on the garden table, chucked in a hank of pre-wetted natural yarn, and let the boys have fun squirting on the colours.

A quick zap in the mircowave, a rinse, hang out to dry and VIOLA!  Two tasty skeins of yarn that my boys won’t let me knit with (Luka keeps his in his ’special’ box).

I would highly recommend this bit of creative fun, as a non-toxic alternative to yarn dyes (the wool smells yummy afterwards too!)

More Spun Out Arrivals! June 30, 2009

I’m almost holding my breath for the imminent launch of  Spun Out!  For those of you who don’t know, it’s the new spinning arm of The Wool Shack.  New products are arriving weekly and being photographed and popped up on the new website (not that you can seem them yet!).  The website is still being developed behind the scenes and there will still be all the usual testing before it goes live, but hopefully the end of July or early August will see all the yummies online that we have on our shelves.  Here’s a sneaky peak of the goregous Superwash Merino fibre from Squoosh!

Isobels Sweet-Pea’s May 1, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — behindthewoolshack @ 2:02 pm

I have just fallen in love with this pattern! How CUTE are these, and they even STAY on Izzy’s feet…a miracle!  I knit these using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, and chose to do the sock part stripey, for a bit of spice.  If you wanted to make them in one colour, you would only need one ball, so they make great little gifts for a new bub!

The pattern is from Bekah Knits and it’s called Baby Sweet-Pea.  You can also buy the Toddler version too, along with a whole array of other styles!  LOVE IT!
