Itty Bitty Toys (my new ‘favourite book’) November 13, 2009

Now, with 4 kids under 7, I am a HUGE fan of knitted toys.  Love knitting them, LOVE giving them!  My kids have had robots, aliens, dinosaurs, and a few more to boot.  So, you can imagine my excitement when I got a copy of ITTY BITTY TOYS, the latest in the range of Itty Bitty books by the oh-so-talented Susan B Anderson (I love you Susan).

My first cast on was the irresistible Egg To Bluebird And A Little Nest Too!  Super, super cute, and for me, these ‘reversible’ toys make the book completely unique.   The picture below is taken from the book:-

This little cutie is my attempt, with a slightly bigger beak (not intended that way, but cute, so it stayed!) and I knit mine with a teeny-tiny amount of JO SHARP SILKROAD DK TWEED in Granary (for the nest), Iceberg (for the bird) and Fleece (for the egg shell).  I had a scrap of orange alpaca for the beak.

I am now in the process of knitting my 1 year old daughter the inside out little girl!  Sisters is a cute as can be pattern; on one side is a blonde, on the other a brunette (much like my sister and me!).   This time I am knitting from some left over stash (these knits are GREAT for that) and I have a range of colours of Rowan Scottish Tweed DK, but the JO SHARP SILKROAD DK TWEED would work equally as well!

We have just received copies of Frech Girl Knits  in store and came across THE most divine lacy cap-sleeve top called Delphine, that uses between 3-5 hanks of the Blue Sky Alpaca SilkWe LOVE it and thought we just had to share it with you.  If you haven’t ever knit with the Alpaca Silk this would be the perfect way to sample the yarn.  It’s so wearable, yet totally feminine!  For your info, sizes range from 70/89.5/109 cm bust (27.5″/35.25″/43″) using 3, 4 or 5 hanks.  All of us girls have drooled over this one, lets see who knits it first (no prizes for guessing who’ll be the last on the list, with an embarrassingly large number of unfinished projects calling out from the wings!!).
