Fetching Gloves September 4, 2009

Filed under: Free Pattern Links, Our Favourite Yarns, What We Are Knitting — behindthewoolshack @ 3:07 am

We LOVE this pattern….not least because it’s a freebie published in Knitty, but because it’s the perfect ‘gift knit’ using just one ball of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran!  The pattern is called Fetching and is a gorgeous fingerless glove design, with lovely cabling on the cuff.  Kathleen knit this pair as a gift for a lucky recipient in her ‘Christmas in July’ gathering….. it went down VERY well, as you can imagine!

Cotton Skull Hat September 2, 2009

Filed under: Our Favourite Patterns, Our Favourite Yarns, What We Are Knitting — behindthewoolshack @ 2:48 am

It’s been a while since I blogged, so apologies for my absence,  it’s been a shocking few weeks all round (I won’t bore you with the details).   We have all been knitting though, so I will be telling you all about it in the coming days.

One of Jemma’s finished projects (we like those the best!) is a pair of Skull Hats for her twin boys (oh the pain of having to make everything twice!) and she decided to make them in the Blue Sky Alpacas Dyed Organic Cotton.  The combo was fantastic and Jemma has proclaimed that the yarn is now her new favourite (until the next one comes along).  It was a quick knit, with enough interest in the funky skull pattern to stop you getting bored and I think you’ll agree they look fab.

Kathleen’s Cabled Shawl June 19, 2009

Filed under: Our Favourite Patterns, Our Favourite Yarns, What We Are Knitting — behindthewoolshack @ 2:24 am

This is a pattern that ALL of us want to knit (oh for more hours in the day!).  Kathleen knit her Jo Sharp Cabled Shawl from Knit Issue 6 in Silkroad DK Tweed in Magnolia.  It’s so wearable and Kathleen had fun knitting it, with the cables enough to keep her interest going as she knit the length of the shawl.  Great for the cooler months (WHEN they arrive in WA!!).

Toddlers Cupcake Hat May 22, 2009

Filed under: Free Pattern Links, Our Favourite Yarns, What We Are Knitting — behindthewoolshack @ 2:20 am

These little hats are super quick to make and SOOOOO CUTE!!  My son has one (in chocolate browns) that I made many moons ago, and when he recently wore it to kindy, Mrs Murdoch, the loveliest of kindy teachers, excitedly requested that I make one for her to give to her niece!  How could I refuse?  Using any Aran/12ply yarn and 4.50mm needles, I used Cascade 220 for this one, but you could also use Malabrigo Worsted too!  One ball of each colour would be plenty to make two hats.   I also made the Cupcake base/ribbing an extra inch long, as the two inches that the pattern calls for doesn’t quite cover the ears!  The Cupcake Hat Pattern is a free pattern, so a great way to adorn the heads of your little ones.

Dainty Pinstripes Pullover March 20, 2009

Filed under: Our Favourite Patterns, Our Favourite Yarns — behindthewoolshack @ 12:10 am

This will be the last pattern with Alpaca Silk that I rave about for a while, I promise!!  This is such a wearable knit, and uses two colours of Alpaca Silk.  One colour is used for the wide ribbing at the bottom of the sweater, and the second colour completes the main body of the garment.  In the featured pattern it uses Oyster as the main colour and Ginger as the contrast colour.  The pattern is called Dainty Pinstripes Pullover and is featured in Interweave Knits Winter 2008.  Think of the colour combo fun you could have with this one!
