More Spun Out Arrivals! June 30, 2009

Filed under: News, Spinning, Uncategorized — behindthewoolshack @ 7:55 am

I’m almost holding my breath for the imminent launch of  Spun Out!  For those of you who don’t know, it’s the new spinning arm of The Wool Shack.  New products are arriving weekly and being photographed and popped up on the new website (not that you can seem them yet!).  The website is still being developed behind the scenes and there will still be all the usual testing before it goes live, but hopefully the end of July or early August will see all the yummies online that we have on our shelves.  Here’s a sneaky peak of the goregous Superwash Merino fibre from Squoosh!

spunout

For the last few months, we have been working hard at getting Spun Out, the spinning arm of The Wool Shack, up and running and we are only a few weeks away!  I wanted to give you a sneek peek into the stock that’s on it’s way, as well as the opportunity to pre-order some items.

We will be stocking a huge array of yummy drop spindles, including Greensleeves, Jenkins, KCL, Spindlewood,  Houndesign, The Spanish Peacock, Kunderts, Sublime Spindles, High Low Whorl Spindles UK & Avi Wasserman spindles.

Majacraft, Ashford and Schacht are the wheels we will be selling, and depending on freight prices, Spinolution & Kromski Wheels.  Currently we have the following wheels available for test drives: Ashford Joy, Schacht Ladybug, Majacraft Rose and Majacraft Suzi Alpaca.  If you are in WA and want to try before you buy, give us a call to arrange a spin!

We also aim to stock a range of fibre preparation tools, as well as some funky spinning accessories that you can’t live without.

Fibre wise, Hanks in The Hook Luxury Batts will be on their way soon (Oooooo YUMM!) as well as Pidgeonroof Studios, Maude & Me, Sock Pixie Fibres.  We will also be selling undyed fibre and Landscape Dyes, for the DIY enthusiast!

Spin-Off magazine, books galore, bags and bootie!  It’s all good!

We have managed to get a good freight price for our Schacht Wheels, so we will be stocking the Ladybug (we already have a pre-order for this) and the Matchless.  If you are interested, please contact us via The Wool Shack with your details and we’ll be in touch.

Ladybug – $950 $825  (new prices due to a better shipping rate)

Spinning At The Wool Shack December 3, 2008

Filed under: News, Spinning — behindthewoolshack @ 6:41 am

I am delighted, NAY, truly over the moon, to announce that The Wool Shack is Spinning!  As of 2009 we will be selling gorgeous spinning wheels from around the globe, namely Schacht, Majacraft, Ashford, Louet & cross fingers, the Spinolution Mach 1

We aim to have demos available for local folk (strictly by appointment only).  At the moment we have a Schacht Ladybug & an Ashford Joy (double treadle) available for test driving, and are working on getting a Mach 1 in the new year.  Please note that test drives are for people who are able to spin, not a lesson for complete beginners.

I myself am a novice spinner, so this was an exciting journey for me, and I have become so hooked on handspinning that I felt I simply wanted to offer wheels and accessories to our lovely customers!

As for what to spin, well you really can’t get any better than locally based fibres from Treetops Colour Harmonies.  Nancy and co produce the softest, richest fibres that I have come across so far (and trust me, my fibre stash is growing at an alarming rate).  As I love to support Australian based artists, we will be planning to stock her range of hand dyed merino, as well as the divine colour nuances!

Check out the two wheels available for a wee practice right now!!

Please do contact us if you would like to come and have a look at the wheels.  More pricing info will be up on our website in January, but if you are interested in a wheel earlier than this, don’t hesistate to drop us a line!!

4 weeks to go!! August 29, 2008

Filed under: News — behindthewoolshack @ 1:56 am

With 4 weeks to go before the birth of my fourth baby (a little girl), I am beginning to head into the ‘no room in the inn’ phase!  Marge took a photo of my heavily pregnant self at our recent Knit Along hosted at The Wool Shack!  I’m trying to put my feet up as much as is possible with three noisy boys in the house, plus a husband as well, and knitting as many girly ensembles as I can (I promise to post piccies when they are all sewn up!!).  As a pre-warning, ‘new items’ that are featured regularly on The Wool Shack website might be slower in popping up, plus I am hoping to try to get a September newsletter out, but babies have a tendency to arrive at unpredictable moments (I am due on the 26th) so I might not make it….this is me apologising in advance if no newsletter is sent out next month!!
