Fetching Gloves September 4, 2009

Filed under: Free Pattern Links, Our Favourite Yarns, What We Are Knitting — behindthewoolshack @ 3:07 am

We LOVE this pattern….not least because it’s a freebie published in Knitty, but because it’s the perfect ‘gift knit’ using just one ball of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran!  The pattern is called Fetching and is a gorgeous fingerless glove design, with lovely cabling on the cuff.  Kathleen knit this pair as a gift for a lucky recipient in her ‘Christmas in July’ gathering….. it went down VERY well, as you can imagine!

Jemma’s Baby Ensemble June 18, 2009

Filed under: Free Pattern Links, Our Favourite Patterns, What We Are Knitting — behindthewoolshack @ 2:22 am

One of Jemma’s girlfriends is due to have her second baby in July, and this little collection is the gift that she has knit up for the bub!  Made in light grey, this will be great for either boy or girl and we just LOVE IT!  How cute!!

The pattern for the dungerees is called Florence from Debbie Bliss’s Cashermino Collection and was using Debbis Bliss Baby Cashmerino in Grey.   The gorgeous hat was the Tilli Tomas Baby Beanie Hat Pattern and was knit double with Baby Cashmerino and Blue Sky Alpacas Brushed Suri.  The booties were a free pattern called Puffy Scuffs and were knit in the Brushed Suri.

Toddlers Cupcake Hat May 22, 2009

Filed under: Free Pattern Links, Our Favourite Yarns, What We Are Knitting — behindthewoolshack @ 2:20 am

These little hats are super quick to make and SOOOOO CUTE!!  My son has one (in chocolate browns) that I made many moons ago, and when he recently wore it to kindy, Mrs Murdoch, the loveliest of kindy teachers, excitedly requested that I make one for her to give to her niece!  How could I refuse?  Using any Aran/12ply yarn and 4.50mm needles, I used Cascade 220 for this one, but you could also use Malabrigo Worsted too!  One ball of each colour would be plenty to make two hats.   I also made the Cupcake base/ribbing an extra inch long, as the two inches that the pattern calls for doesn’t quite cover the ears!  The Cupcake Hat Pattern is a free pattern, so a great way to adorn the heads of your little ones.

Malabrigo Toddler Dress March 16, 2009

Knitty is a fab online knitting magazine that has been showcasing free patterns (by independent designers) for many years now.  We love to browse the new patterns each season and the latest edition, spring 2009, features a gorgeous little dress made out of yummy Malabrigo Worsted Merino.  The pattern, called Topaz,  uses 1 hank of the main colour and 1 hank (although only part of that hank) for the contrast colour, for the sizes up to 12 months, and the 18 month size uses two balls of the main colour!  What a great gift and a quick knit!  Soooo cute!  Oooo too many lovely girly thinks for me to ‘plan’ to knit for my daughter!

Rivulet Scarf March 10, 2009

Filed under: Free Pattern Links, Our Favourite Yarns — behindthewoolshack @ 2:47 am

Just come across a free pattern on a lovely blog called Knit Or Knot. Rivulet is  a gorgeous lace scarf that’s knit in the divine Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk.  It uses 2-3 hanks, depending on whether you choose the shorter or longer version, and it’s a great way to test this yarn if you haven’t knit with it before.  What a fab gift this knitted scarf would be!
